Obituary

Willis Ramon Meckley, 94, of Greencastle, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law.  Born September 16, 1927, he was the third of four children of the late Joseph Ray and Ida (Phleeger) Meckley.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Eileen Myers, and a brother, Warren Eugene “Gene” Meckley.  He is survived by his youngest brother, Joseph Gerald “Gere” Meckley of New York.

Although he did not graduate from high school, Ramon, as most people called him, went on to serve in the US Navy near the end of WWII and then on to a career in the sheet metal section of Letterkenny Army Depot, advancing to a supervisory position and retiring after 30 years of employment there.  He stayed active in Letterkenny Rod and Gun Club until very recently.

Mr. Meckley was a handyman and enjoyed maintaining the house he helped to build and the beautifully landscaped lawn along a stream where he and his late wife, Sylvia (Snider) Meckley, lived their entire 61 years of married life, having married November 16, 1951.  He also enjoyed deer hunting, and fishing with his grandchildren, and fishing with a group of buddies in Canada each summer for many years after retirement.  He and his wife were faithful attendees of Antrim Brethren in Christ Church.
