Walter A. Hykes

Walter A. Hykes, age 94, of Greencastle, PA, was peacefully ushered into the presence of Jesus, surrounded by family, on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the Quincy Village Rehabilitation Center. Born in Greencastle, PA on the family farm on September 12, 1927, he was the son of the late Morris A. and Mary E. Shuck Hykes.

Walter was born and lived his entire life on the family farm.  He farmed himself, and remained active on the farm helping the next generation.  “Walt” worked for the Antrim Township Supervisors from 1989-2002.  He was a member of Grace Bible Church, Greencastle, PA.

Surviving are three children, Susan A. Donnelly (Mike) of Cascade, MD, Karen L. Carbaugh (Bob) of Chambersburg, PA, and Michael Mahoney (Mary) of Fairfield, PA; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Hykes (Carolyn) of Greencastle, PA; three nephews, six great-nephews, four great-nieces, two great great-nieces, and one great great-nephew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mildred M. Borton Hykes, four siblings, Margaret Shindle, Lester, Robert, and John Hykes; a grandson, David Carbaugh; two nephews, Mark Hykes and Larry Shindle; one niece, Darlene Higgins; and one great-nephew, Daniel Hykes.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 10 AM at Grace Bible Church, 2327 Hoffman Rd., Greencastle, PA 17225, where Pastors Nathan Hykes, Herman Fisler, and Mac Miller will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, from 6-8 PM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225 and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the above church and address. Interment will follow the service in Beautiful View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg PA 17202 or to Grace Bible Church at the address above.
