Shirley Yvonne (Murphy) Stenger

 Shirley Yvonne (Murphy) Stenger, age 89, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at her home in Heritage Hills Retirement Community. Born January 10, 1934, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Roy Murphy and Gladys Sellers (Murphy Burger) Rohrer.

She graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1951 and married Wayne E. Stenger March 11, 1955. They were married for 60 years before Wayne passed away December 27, 2015. They were lifelong residents of Greencastle. After raising her family, she was employed several places including, Sunny Way Diner, Nibble with Gibble’s Inc., and childcare for her granddaughter. She was a longtime member of Grace United Church of Christ, Greencastle, were she was active in the Grace Snyder Circle and had participated in the choir. She enjoyed playing in a card club, patronizing her favorite restaurants and stores, beaches, and Disney World trips with her family and friends. She dearly loved spending time with her family and looked forward to every holiday gathering.

She is survived by her four children, Michael Stenger (wife Misty) of Greencastle, PA, Mark Stenger (wife Tamara) of Minneapolis, MN, Marcy Barrett (husband David) of Hagerstown, MD, and Monte Stenger (wife Holly), of Charleston, SC; eight grandchildren, Tim Stenger, Melinda Rush, Jacob Stenger, Scott Barrett, Matthew Barrett, Meagan Stenger, Kristen Stenger, and Austin Stoler; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Sharon Daugherty, of Falling Waters, WV,  a brother, Kelly Rohrer of Hagerstown, MD; a number of nieces and nephews, a special cousin, James Harshman, a sister in-law, Carol Burger; and her devoted special friend, Glenda Stenger. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Kneisley, and a brother, Wayne Burger.

Services will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023, at 10 AM in Grace United Church of Christ, 128 East Baltimore St., Greencastle, PA 17225 with Rev. Mark Ruzicka officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday, April 24 at the church address above. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA.  In lieu of flowers and memorial contributions may be made in her name to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O.
