Ronald Edwin Beatty

Ronald E. Beatty, age 86, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023, at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center. Born in Cove Gap, PA on May 31, 1936, he was the son of the late John Kenneth and Beulah Gordon Beatty.

A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Beatty served for 20 years, retiring in 1979. He served as a pistol marksman in the 6th Army Marksmanship Training Unit. Before he became a marksman Ron served with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade as a medic during Vietnam.  He was a member of the RNC, VFW, Cove Gap Historical Society, and a life member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, restoring old cars, refurbishing Coo-Coo clocks, and watching NASCAR. He was a former firearms instructor and dealer. Mr. Beatty also enjoyed attending the Mercersburg Senior Center, spending time with his grandchildren, watching Fox News, and his dog, Lucy.

Surviving are four children, Crystal Ellison, Gregory Beatty, Rhonda Beatty Hykes, and Jerry Beatty; three grandchildren, Stephanie Hykes Klenzing, Courtney Hykes, and Donnie Hykes, Jr.; six great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Susan Mosher, Cindy Harclerode, Nancy Bingaman, and Joyce Stepler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by  His wife of 55 years Lula Beatty, a son, Eddie Beatty, grandson, Jesse Hykes, and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 10 AM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA, where Pastor Brent Mangus will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 14 from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
