Richard lee “Dick” Mellott, age 76 of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Wood, PA on November 4, 1946, he was the son of the late Raymond “Dick” Mellott and Alice Black Mellott.
Dick attended South Antrim School and Greencastle-Antrim High School class of 1966. He worked at Grove Manufacturing and Manitowoc for 44 years, retiring in 2009. Dick also worked for Antrim Township part time after retirement for 6 years, until 2015. He was a 54 year member of Rescue Hose Company, No.1, where he served as Past Chief, Deputy Chief, and Captain; he was also a member of MMP&W and Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Companies, the Greencastle VFW and America Legion, and the National Street Rod Association. He loved hunting, fishing, and his family and cherished his Street Rod.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 56 years, Sherry Myers Mellott, whom he married on March 26, 1966; two daughters, Angie Shindle (husband Mike) and Marti Pine (husband Richie); his cherished nephew, Robbie Mellott; niece, Wendy Fogelsonger; four grandchildren, Brianne Shindle, Seth Shindle (wife Darlin), Rusty Pine, and Dakotah Pine; six great-grandchildren, Maleah Mason, Makyla Johnson, Ezra, Nolan and Nova Shindle, and Beau Hepfer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Spangler and brothers, Bob Mellott and Douglas Mellott.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 10 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA, where Mr. Benjamin Thomas will officiate. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Monday, February 27, 2023, from 6 – 8 PM, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 PM by members of the Mt. Pisgah Lodge 443. Graveside services on Tuesday in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Broad Top, PA at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s name to the Rescue Hose Company No.1, 842 S.
