Paul J. Barnes, age 97 of Chambersburg, PA, and formerly Greencastle, PA passed away on Friday morning at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 8, 1924, in Peters Township, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence E. and Elva m. Kuhn Barnes.
Mr. Barnes was a 1942 graduate of the former Lemasters High School. After graduation he went on to serve honorably in the US Army during WWII. Mr. Barnes was the owner of the former Barnes Electric and Refrigeration; he also worked for the Tuscarora School District as the Director of Building and Grounds for several years, until his retirement. Mr. Barnes was a life member of the VFW Post 6319, Greencastle and a member of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society. In his younger years, he enjoyed taking his sons to their sporting events, hunting, and fishing. In his later years, Mr. Barnes enjoyed Canvas painting and pitching horseshoes.
Surviving are two sons, Geoffrey L. Barnes and wife Mary Ann of Hagerstown and James E. Barnes and wife Joyce of Greencastle, one grandson Dirk Brumbaugh, three great-grandchildren, two great-great Grandchildren, a sister, Helen Barnes of Chambersburg, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah K. Fitz Barnes in 2015, two brothers, Glenn and Arthur Barnes, and two sisters, Edna Koler and Arlene Sharar.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at 10:00 AM from the St. Stephen's Lutheran Church 8835 Lemar Rd. Greencastle with Rev. Warren Heitzelman officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the above church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the St. Stephen's Lutheran Church 8835 Lemar Rd. Greencastle, PA 17225.
