Norma Romberger Obituary

Norma K. Romberger, age 73, of St. Thomas, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Meritus Hospital in Hagerstown, MD. Born November 5, 1948, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Walter R. and Edna A. Gearhart McElhaney.

Norma was a 1966 graduate of James Buchanan High School. She went on to study for her Bachelor of Arts degree at Susquehanna University, where she would graduate in 1972 and then from Lehigh University with her Master of Arts in 1982. Norma was a lifelong educator, teaching at various schools to include St. John the Baptist Schools (Whitehall and Ottsville, PA) Holy Trinity Lutheran School, which she helped establish in Bethlehem, PA, and St. Ann’s Catholic School in Bethlehem where she retired as Principal in 2006. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, the Jr. League of Lehigh Valley, where she had served as a Past President, and various Educational Associations. Norma had a passion for history, travel, and caring for her family and her dogs. She cherished her grandchildren and spent her time traveling with her family and friends, and enjoying various hobbies including sewing, knitting, and gardening.

Surviving is her husband of 53 years, Charles Romberger, whom she married on April 12, 1969; her son, Colin J. Romberger (wife Meghan) of Mercersburg, PA; five grandchildren, Madison, Connor, Sophie, Max, and Ada Romberger; and her brother, Walter Raymond McElhaney, Jr. of Lake City, FL.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at 3 PM at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church – Upton PA, 8835 Lemar Road, Greencastle, PA 17225, where Pastor Dee Miller will officiate. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital,  501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
