Obituary

Heaven gained another angel when Mary Lou Martin, 81, of Menno Haven in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 at Chambersburg Hospital from complications of Melanoma. She was born May 6th, 1942 in Thomas, Oklahoma to the late Levi J. And Malinda C. (Wingard) Chupp.

Mary Lou attended Nappanee High School in Nappanee, Indiana. When she was 18, she moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania where she got a job at Lancaster General Hospital. It was here that she met her late husband, Arlin R. Martin. They were married on September 29th, 1962 and lived in Maugansville, Maryland where they raised their four children. She worked at Mullendore Auction in Boonsboro, Maryland and enjoyed volunteering at World Treasures in Hagerstown, Maryland. 

Mary Lou was a homemaker and spent her time crocheting, decorating, writing skits, helping with various church functions, playing cards, and loved shuffling during the winter months in Sarasota, Florida. She was an avid Orioles fan and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. 

She attended Living Word Community Church in Greencastle, Pennsylvania and Bethel Mennonite Church when in Sarasota, Florida. 

Mary Lou is survived by four children: Cindy S. (Carl) Keener of State Line, Keith L. Martin of Greencastle, Lori A. (Greg) Martin of Marion, and Amy Jo Hammond of Chambersburg; six grandchildren: Chanelle (Ryan) Hamilton, Derek (Chantel) Keener, Kolby Martin, Hailee Martin, Michaelena Hammond, and Logan Martin; four great-grandchildren: Brookelyn, Brielle, and Jackson Keener, and Willow Hamilton; five siblings: LeRoy (Shirley) Chupp of Portland, OR, Linda (Ernie) Hostetler of Middleberry, IN, Mel (Beth) Chupp of Hagerstown, MD, Dorothy (Wendell) Hoover of Nappanee, IN, and Carol (Doug) Keener of State Line, PA; two sisters-in-law: Donna Chupp of Phoenix, AZ, and Carolyn Chupp of Goshen, IN; one brother-in-law: Bob (Sue) Bender of Lancaster County, PA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings: Sam and Harvey Chupp, and Viola Bender; and one sister-in-law: Pat Chupp. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 18th, 2023, with a viewing one hour prior at Living Word Community Church, 3845 Buchanan Trail West in Greencastle, PA, with Rev. Steve Fretz officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Sunday, September 17th, 2023, at Living Word Community Church. Burial will be at the Browns Mill Cemetery at Kauffman Station. Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the benevolent fund at Menno Haven, 300 Ridgeview, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA.
