Karen Louise (Freshman) Johns

Karen Louise Johns, 78, of Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born April 26, 1943 in Greencastle, she was a daughter of the late Charles J. and Sara Tice Freshman.

Karen was a 1961 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School. She was employed as a housekeeper at the Days Inn in Chambersburg and later at Weis Market in Chambersburg and Food Lion in Hagerstown. Karen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Greencastle and the American Legion Post 373 Auxiliary. She was also a life member of Rescue Hose Company No. 1 and the VFW Post 6319 Auxiliary, both in Greencastle. She enjoyed playing bingo, cards, music and dancing.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jacob Johns, whom she married on March 16, 1963; four children, Lisa Kiser of Greencastle, Kelly Tice (husband Douglas) of Greencastle, Terry Johns (Krista Roland) of Everett, PA and Roger Johns (Angie Oberholzer) of Greencastle; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and seven siblings, Charles Freshman (wife Nancy) of Greencastle, Donna Wolfe (husband Leroy) of Greencastle, Virginia Unterseher (husband Arvid) of Kimberling City, MO, Beverly Cleaton (husband Donald) of Bonaire, GA, Caroll “Rudy” Freshman (wife Shirley) of Greencastle, Daryl Freshman (wife Sandy) of Summerville, SC, and Sherry Bingaman (husband Chester) of Greencastle. In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronald, William “Buck” and Richard Rick Freshman.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1186 Jason Drive, Greencastle, PA 17225. Pastor Barbara Barry will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
