Harold E. Showalter

Harold Eugene Showalter, age 74, of Greencastle, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. Born October 12, 1944, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Laban and Ethel Risser Showalter.

Mr. Showalter was a 1962 graduate of the North Hagerstown High School. Harold worked in many capacities in the implement industry for John Deere, Inc. for over 51 years, lastly at Smith’s implements in Hagerstown, where he was currently employed.   He was an active member of Salem Ridge Community Church and Cove Valley Christian Camp. Ambitious in nature, Harold could not let an adventure pass him by; he enjoyed gardening, bird watching, fishing, biking with bicycle tour on C and O Canal for San Mar Family and Community Services, and taking Team Mission Trips to Belize.

 Surviving is his beloved wife of 53 years, Esther Hege Showalter, whom he married on October 16, 1965; two loving daughters, Lynndell Showalter Quirple (husband David) of Hagerstown, MD and Donna Showalter Weatherbie (husband Robert) of Landisville, PA; three cherished grandchildren, Jocelyn, Benjamin, and Brayden Quirple; two siblings, Lewis “Sonny” Showalter (wife Rachel) of Waynesboro, PA and Barbara Frey (husband Nelson) of Newville, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Ruth Ann Martin.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 2 PM at Salem Ridge Community Church,  441 Pensinger Rd., Greencastle, PA 17225, where Pastor Brian Emery will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem Ridge Community Church towards missions, 441 Pensinger Rd. Greencastle, PA 17225.
