Dorothy E. Kennedy Martin, age 73, of Mercersburg, PA, passed away at Genesis Chambersburg Nursing and Rehab Center on Monday, March 6, 2023. Born in Waynesboro, PA on June 2, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Ralph F. and Anna Mary Hykes Kennedy.
Mrs. Martin was a 1968 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School. She primarily worked as a home seamstress. She was a member of the Mercersburg Mennonite Church and former member of Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, where she taught children’s Sunday school and Bible School, served on the visitation committee and was active in the sewing circle. She also participated in various ministries at Camp Joy-El over the years and served as an assistant girls scout leader. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, being involved in church activities, and canning.
Surviving is her husband of 53 years, Warren Martin, whom she married on December 27, 1969; three children, Selena A. Strine (husband Gregory) of Greencastle, PA, Curtis E. Martin (wife Joy) of Mercersburg, Pa, and Angela L. Frey (husband Peter) of Chambersburg, PA; eight grandchildren, Tyler, Josh, Bailey, Kierstyn (Colby), Cameron, Micah, Elijah, and Josiah; and four brothers, Norman, Charles Ray, Jerome, and Philip Kennedy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 9 AM at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, PA, followed by a memorial service at Mercersburg Mennonite Church, 10600 Buchanan Trail West, Mercersburg, PA 17236, where Pastors David Possinger and Randy Martin will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the above church and address from 6 – 8 PM. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA.
