Donald L. Appleby

Donald L. Appleby, age 80, of Greencastle, PA, passed away at the Chambersburg Hospital on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Born September 14, 1940, in Clear Ridge, Fulton County, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence Henry and Vera Locke Appleby.

Mr. Appleby served honorably in the U.S. Army. He worked as a consolidator in the traffic department at Corning Glass in Greencastle for 45 years. Mr. Appleby attended Cornerstone Bible Church, member of the Mount Pisgah Lodge No. 443, and the VFW, all in Greencastle, PA. He enjoyed riding snowmobiles, riding motorcycles, and most of all spending time with family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty L. (Strait) Appleby, whom he married on March 8, 1958; a son, Doug L. Appleby (wife Candy) of Greencastle, PA; three grandchildren, Doug Watson, Hillary Bohrer, and Autumn Appleby; three great-grandchildren, Liam Watson and Oliver and Everly Bohrer; and three siblings, Larry Appleby (wife Gloria) of Greencastle, PA, Terry Appleby of Hustontown, PA; and Sandy Cisney (husband Tim) of Rock Hill, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Valeria Kave in 2013.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, services and interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA.
