Connie Blair Obituary

Connie E. (Strait) Blair, 75 of Greencastle, PA went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 2, 2021, surrounded by her family at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 16, 1946, in Mercersburg, PA; she was the daughter of the late Howard Harry (Jiggs) and Ruth (Ryder) Strait.

She was a graduate of the James Buchanan High School with the Class of 1964, where Connie played Field Hockey as the goalie.  After raising her three children Connie was employed as the head baker at Cedar Ridge Ministries.  She was famous for her pies, cookies, cakes, and many other baked goods. 

She was an active member of Ebenezer Church, Greencastle, where she served in many different aspects.  Every year Connie was instrumental in putting together shoeboxes for the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. She was youth director for 10 years, which included organizing Kentucky Laurel Mission trips.  She was also a Sunday School teacher for both Pleasant Hill UB Church, Greencastle and Ebenezer for many years between the two churches.

Connie was involved with the Penn Laurel Girl Scouts, Troop #853 dating back to 1970.  Eventually becoming the Junior Girl Scout Leader for each of her girls as they came through the program. 

She was an avid bird watcher and could name every type of bird that crossed her path.  Connie enjoyed walking along the beach and collecting seashells.  She was always busy organizing, tidying her home, watching the wildlife, and spending time with her great-grandson, Kaeden who she shared a special bond with.

Connie is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard O. “Dick” Blair who she married February 1, 1965; three daughters, Lori Ann Houser (John) of Greencastle, Durinda K. Stouffer (Mark) of Newville, PA, and Krista J. Boschert (Thomas) of Greencastle; nine grandchildren, Keri Houser, Aaron “AJ” Houser (Morgan), Dalton Stouffer (Stephanie), Olivia Stouffer, Christopher Boschert (Brittany), Kathryn “Kate” McCulloch (Levi), Bethany, Hope, and Hannah Boschert; five great-grandchildren, Kaeden, Jace, Aiden, Isabella, and Leo; two siblings, Linda Taylor (Brian) and David Frye; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 6 – 8 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA.  The family has requested that attendees wear a mask.  Graveside services will be private on Friday at 10 AM at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA.  A memorial service will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse at www.samaritanspurse.org.
