Steven William “Steve” Ambrose, age 66, of Greencastle, PA passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, June 22, 2026. Born May 31, 1960, in Ft. Leonardwood, MO, he was the son of Eliane LeBraux Ambrose and the late Harold R. Ambrose

Steve was a 1977 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim Senior High School. He worked as a painter at the former Grove Worldwide for 23 years, until his medical retirement. He was known to be a “Jack of All Trades” and talented “Handyman”. Steve was a member of the Greencastle American Legion Post 373, where he was an avid billiards player and last years Thursday night league champ. A charismatic spirit, Steve enjoyed telling jokes, no matter the occasion. He was also an avid Harley-Davidson fan, enjoyed riding his bike, the Steelers, reading, playing pool, and always being there for others.

Surviving is his wife of 38 years, Kelly Stoner Ambrose, whom he married on November 10, 1987; two children, Destiny D. Ambrose (Duane Bair) of Greencastle, PA and Adam W Ambrose (Ashley) of Greencastle, PA; seven grandchildren, Elijah Ambrose, Clara Thrush, Landon Summers, Noah Ambrose, Reese Thrush, Luke Ambrose, and Brody Ambrose; and four siblings, Shirley Keller (Ed) of Hagerstown, MD, Elaine Ambrose of Hagerstown, MD, Gary Ambrose of Greencastle, Pa, and Sandy Poffenberger (Jake) of Williamsport, MD. In addition to his father, Steve was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Ambrose.

A Celebration of Steve’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in his name to Wounded Warrior Project, at www.support.woundedwarriorproject.org or the Antietam Humane Society, antietamhumanesociety.org/donate.
