Born and raised in Dudley, Pennsylvania, Ronald was one of six children of Angela and Alex Maslanik and grew up alongside his four brothers and one sister. He graduated from Saxton-Liberty High School in 1958, where he excelled as a multi-sport athlete, lettering in baseball, basketball, and football. His athletic achievements earned him a football scholarship to Bucknell University, where he played on the 1960 Lambert Cup championship team. He later transferred to Shippensburg University and earned a degree in Mathematics Education in 1962.
Ronald began his career as a mathematics teacher at Palmyra High School. A year later he was hired to teach mathematics at Everett High School where is also coached football as an assistant and later the head coach. His 1966 team went 7-2 and won the Bedford County football championship. After earning a Master’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of South Carolina and obtaining his administrative certification, he joined James Buchanan High School as assistant principal in 1970 and was appointed principal in 1974. He retired in 1998 after a distinguished 35-year career in education.
A devoted Catholic, Ronald was an active member of his church and served as a lector for many years. In the mornings, he could often be found reading the Bible or a daily devotional before beginning his day.
In retirement, Ronald pursued his passion for golf, becoming a champion golfer and earning titles including the Great Cove Club Championship and the Waynesboro Country Club Senior Club Championship in 2009. He was inducted into both the Bedford County and the Huntingdon County Sports Halls of Fame. He and his wife, Ann, were both avid golfers and enjoyed traveling together, particularly to golf events and tropical destinations where they could relax by the beach.
Above all, Ronald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and family man. Family was his greatest priority, and he remained actively involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. He was a steady source of support, guidance, and encouragement and will be greatly missed.
