Ray W. Mowen, Sr., 89, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Saturday November 22, 2025, at Mercy House of Chambersburg. He was born on September 17, 1936, in Greencastle, PA to the late Preston M. and Anna M. (Helfrick) Mowen.
Ray was employed by Teledyne Landis Machine as a Computer Operator until his retirement. He served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1955-1960. He was a member of First Church Greencastle, life member and past president at Rescue Hose Company No. 1 of Greencastle, PA, member of Cumberland Valley Volunteer Fireman’s Association, life Member and past president of Franklin Fulton County Fireman’s Association, member of Pennsylvania State Fireman’s Association, curator for Rescue Hose Company Museum, and serviced and maintained parking meters for the Borough of Greencastle for many years.
Ray is survived by his wife Barbara V. (Rowe) Mowen of Greencastle, PA whom he married on February 8, 1963, daughter Cynthia “Cindy” Bachtell and her partner Dan of Chambersburg, PA’ son Ray W. “Butch” Mowen, Jr. and his wife Barb of Marion, PA; son Keith L. Mowen and his wife Cheryl of Greencastle, PA; brother Frank L. Mowen and his wife Louise of Greencastle, PA; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a great-granddaughter and 5 siblings.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM at First Church Greencastle, 45 N. Washington Street, Greencastle, PA 17225, where Rev. Ken Aker will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle Street, Greencastle, PA 17225 and on Tuesday at the above church and address one hour prior to the service.
