Mary E. Mayhugh, 93, of Shady Grove PA, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at Doey’s House in Hagerstown, MD on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was the fourth of eleven children born in Waynesboro to the late Harvey and Myrtle (Bingaman) Rice. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Robert L. Mayhugh; her eldest son, Gary L. Mayhugh; two brothers, Robert Rice and Harvey Rice; and three sisters, Bernita Moore, Betty Heacox, and Dolly Fritz.
Mary is survived by her two sons and their wives, Kenneth E. Mayhugh (Suzanna) and Anthony W. Mayhugh (Susan) a daughter, Sandra, and Matt Bowman whom she lovingly referred to as “her boy”. She was blessed with ten grandchildren - Keith Mayhugh (Lisa), Brad Mayhugh, Crystal Panzavecchia (Charles), Stephanie Wilkins, Kenneth Mayhugh, Jr. (Angela), Jamie Breese (Courtney), Bobbie Breese (Iris), Grace Glass (Steve), Kate Swan (Andrew) and Emily Pfeffer (Ryan); twenty Great Grandchildren and eleven Great-great Grandchildren. She is additionally survived by her sisters, Naomi Mowen (Dean), Jeannie Owens and her brothers Paul Rice (Amy), Jim Rice, Donald Rice (Mary) and a myriad of nieces and nephews.
Mary retired from Stanley Company in Chambersburg PA. She, along with her husband Bob, operated Mayhugh’s Ceramics in their home for a number of years. She enjoyed family camping trips and outings, cooking large meals, and being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Mary’s funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 5th at 10:00 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle Street, Greencastle PA. Interment will follow the service in Beautiful View Cemetery in State Line, PA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, September 4, from 6-8 pm and one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday.
