With hearts full of both sorrow and gratitude, we celebrate the life and mourn the passing of Marquita Lou Jarrett Storms, of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, formerly of Fairmont, West Virginia. Marquita departed this life peacefully on Monday, June 2, embraced by the love of her family, at the age of 90.
An educator at heart and in vocation, Marquita earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood Education and a master’s degree in special education from Shippensburg University. Her passion for nurturing others blossomed through her work as Activity Director at the Potomac Center, where her creativity, compassion, and radiant presence enriched countless lives. Marquita’s gifts were many—a devoted homemaker, a skilled seamstress, a wise Sunday School teacher, a faithful gardener, and a master of needlework. She preserved more than just the fruits of her garden—she preserved family traditions, stories, and love. Her voice, a clear and faithful offering, enriched the choir loft of Grace United Church of Christ in Greencastle for over six decades, where she served tirelessly through song, teaching, and spiritual devotion.
Marquita shared 68 remarkable years with her beloved husband, William Storms, a union grounded in deep love, steadfast faith, and unwavering devotion. Together they raised a beautiful family, and she lives on in the hearts of her children: Kristen Storms (Jeff Tanner), Darlanna Besecker (Dave Besecker), and Allison Lewis (Rod Lewis). She was the proud and loving grandmother of Sarah Strait, Abby McElhiney, Jack Lewis, Will Lewis, and Molly Rea, each of whom carries a spark of her vibrant spirit. Marquita is also lovingly remembered by her cherished siblings: Brenda Tucker, Dale Stotler, and Avanell Klepper. She was preceded in death by her mother, Calantha Jarrett and a sister, Sheila Kendzior. Her legacy is not merely remembered—it is felt, in every life she touched and in every act of love we carry forward in her name.
