Marian Joanne Potter Walck, 90, of Greencastle, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, August 18, 2022 at her home. Born November 13, 1931 in Waynesboro, she was a daughter of the late Charles S. and Martha May Bitner Potter. Joanne was a 1949 graduate of the Greencastle High School. After graduation she went to work in the office of the Greencastle Livestock Market and during that same time she assisted her parents with the operation of their restaurant, the former Potter’s Restaurant in downtown Greencastle. After her mother passed away in 1978 she went to work at Sunnyway Foods in the cheese department where she worked until retiring in 2011.
Joanne was a member of the State Line United Methodist Church and a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Greencastle. She loved reading, listening to Christian music, and attending the weekly Bible study at Marion United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Eldon Walck, whom she married June 30, 1956; her son, Danny Walck and wife Margaret Lueders Walck of Lancaster, PA; two grandchildren, Katelyn Walck Newcomer and husband Michael of Lancaster, PA and Christian Walck and wife Lauren Long Walck of Lancaster, PA; and three great-grandchildren, Rustin Newcomer, Rhys Newcomer, and Graham Newcomer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Potter who died as an infant, and Rosie Potter Kuykendall, as well as her brother, Thomas Potter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 25, 2022 in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 South Carlisle Street, Greencastle, PA. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at the funeral home.
