M.A. Roman Barvinchack

BARVINCHACK, M.A. Roman, age 79, a resident of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025. Born March 11, 1946, in Binghamton, New York. He had a strong Christian faith that was evident during his last days. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age, and his life was built on trusting the Lord.

He is preceded in death by his parents Dr. John Barvinchack and Clara Mae Petre Barvinchack, brother Dr. S.A. Evon Barvinchack, and stepmother June Stouffer Barvinchack.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Barges Barvinchack, of 57 years; his four children Shane Barvinchack, Shawn Barvinchack (wife, Rochelle), Shannon Woods, and Shelly Donaldson (husband, Rod); his four grandchildren Quintin Barvinchack (wife, Joy), Peyton Barvinchack, Garrett Woods, and Owen Woods; and two great-grandsons.

Roman was a Business Teacher at Clear Spring High School for 38 years and was named Whose Who Teachers in America. He sponsored the Future Business Leaders of America, Chess Club, Bible Club, and published several yearbooks as the yearbook advisor.

Roman’s achievements and hobbies included Boy Scouts for 30 years, hiking the Appalachian Trail, an active member of the National Speleological Society, Potomac Speleological Club, Franklin County Grotto, and Shady Grove Ruritan. He was a licensed minister in the Church of the Brethren, taught Sunday School for many years, and enjoyed gardening, and spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 12th at 10 AM, at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA, where Pastor Rod Donaldson will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 11th, from 6 PM to 8 PM, and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Friday, December 12th. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Cemetery in Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Mount Hope Prison Ministry in Hagerstown, MD.
