Lynn S. Thomas, age 73, of Greencastle, PA, passed away at the Chambersburg Hospital on Monday, September 30, 2024 following a short illness. Born in Cumberland, MD on March 14, 1951, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. Thomas, Sr. and Velma Ruth Swain Thomas Miller.
Mr. Thomas served in the U.S. Army honorably from 1971-1977. He worked for the Franklin County Prison for 20 years, retiring in 2012, prior to that he had worked for WKSL, Greencastle Coach Company, and Jerr- Dan. Lynn was a member of the American Legion and VFW and a 50 year member of the Rescue Hose Co. No. 1 all in Greencastle, PA. He loved sports, he was a staunch NY Yankees fan. Also a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Mr. Thomas had a passion for playing softball and enjoyed hunting, taking rides in the country and traveling to Williamsburg, VA and Lancaster, PA. Notably he had a close relationship with NASCAR Legend Dale Earnhardt. Lynn & Sue Owned and Operated the local Greencastle Home Furnishings Store "From The Heart Gifts" where woodworking and doing craft shows was a huge reward to his heart daily to see the happiness and smiles his handcrafting of furniture and small wood treasures brought to so many thousands of people.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 31 years, Suzanne Barnhart Thomas, whom he married March 1993; three daughters, Andrea L. McCauley and her children, Payton B. and Carter J. McCauley, Jennifer R. Trail and her son, London M. Barrow, and Jessica A. Fortier and her daughter, Piper Fortier all of Greencastle, PA; and five siblings, Barry F. Thomas of Charleston, SC, Robert L. Thomas (wife Sherryl) of Chambersburg, PA, Ben Thomas, Jr. (wife Tina) of Greencastle, PA, Erin Myers (husband Rob) of Clear Spring, MD, and Mary Boyer.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11 AM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc. 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA, where Brother Benny Thomas will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
