Larry D. Holbert, Sr., age 88, of Greencastle, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Waynesboro Hospital. Born March 30, 1937, in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Charles Rush Holbert and Helen Louse Beattie Holbert.
Larry was a 1955 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim Senior High School. He went on to proudly serve honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1958 aboard the USS Intrepid (CV-11). Following his military service, he began his career in the Engineering Department at Mack Truck in Hagerstown, MD, where he met his beloved wife and dedicated 37 years, retiring in 1999. A man of many talents, Larry enriched the community with his love of music. He was a longtime performer in the annual Minstrel Show at Greencastle- Antrim High School, where his renditions of Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra favorites, delighted audiences. He also enjoyed singing karaoke, sharing his gift for music with family and friends. Larry was a proud Mason with Mount Pisgah Lodge No. 443 and a lifetime member of the Cumberland Valley Fire Company Association, Shriners of North America, and both the VFW and American Legion of Greencastle. Above all, Larry will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Known for his loving, generous spirit, he touched countless lives with his kindness and warmth.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 62 years, Patricia L. Holbert, with whom he renewed his wedding vows on their 50th anniversary; his children, Larry Holbert II and wife, Belinda of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and Sheri Linton and husband, John of Greencastle; three grandchildren, Tyler and Michell Springer of Germantown, MD, Grant Springer of Pittsburgh, PA, and Alexa Holbert and partner, Owen Smith of Frederick, MD; two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Bennett Springer; step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 11 AM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA, where Mr. Greg Hoover will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
