James R. Stampher

James R. Stampher, age 87, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 24, 1934, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late James Roy and Mildred Strittmatter Stampher.

Mr. Stampher served honorably for 26 years,  in the U.S. Air Force, where he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1977, working  in transoprtation. He was a member of the American Legion Post 373, Greencastle, PA.

Surviving is his sister, Patsy Joanne Salmon of Greencastle, PA, niece, Patricia Sell of Greencastle, PA, nephew, Leo S. Sell, Jr. and numerous other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda Stampher on May 29, 2020, and two siblings, Roy Stampher and Mildred Barry.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at 10 AM in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA.
