James “Jim” L. Cahoe
James “Jim” Lewis Cahoe, age 91, a resident of the Village of Laurel Run near Fayetteville, PA and formerly of Greencastle, PA died at 10:04 PM Sunday, August 21, 2016 in the nursing home.
Born September 3, 1924 in Louisville, KY, he was the son of the late Mary Alice (Spalding) and Jesse Joseph Cahoe. His wife of 65 years, Ida M. (Merrill) Cahoe died February 9, 2012.
He retired from Mack Trucks of Hagerstown in 1987. Jim was a US Navy veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific Theatre. He loved playing his harmonica.
Surviving family are one step-son Richard S. Lindsay and wife Poyong of Port Orange, FL, three daughters, Beverly J. Bennett of Chambersburg, Dolores M. Monn and husband William of Greencastle, Cynthia J. Shatzer and husband Van of Chambersburg, seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Kenneth Andrew Cahoe and a sister Mary Bernice Matty.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 1 at 11:00 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Steve Delaney officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Thursday. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758516 Topeka, Kansas 66675 or Heartland Hospice 417 Phoenix Dr. Chambersburg, PA 17201.
