Harold E. “Mike” Izer, age 79 of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Doey’s House. Born in Hagerstown, MD on October 7, 1945, he was the son of the late Harold Maxwell “Max” and Mary Violet Minnich Izer.
Mr. Izer was a 1963 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim Senior High School. He went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army from 1963-1966. Mr. Izer worked at the Pentagon in Washington DC as an Audio-Visual Specialist for 25 years, retiring in 1997. A talented horse showman, Mike traveled the east coast showing quarter horses as an amateur for over 45 years, winning numerous awards. He was a life member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
Surviving is his spouse and partner of 52 years, David Shoup, whom he married April 18, 2022; brothers in law, John Shoup and Bill Shoup (wife Jan), whom he considered direct family members and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Carolyn Lee Izer Foster on May 5, 2025.
Services and interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. Online condolences may be offered on his page at www.zimmermanfh.com.
