Edward H. Small, 74, of Bethel Park, PA passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021 in Pittsburgh, PA. Born May, 19, 1947 in Franklin County, PA he was the son of the late Richard E. and Ella M. “Jessie” (Glaser) Small.
He was a graduate of the Greencastle Area Senior High School with the Class of 1965. During high school he was class president, a member of the honor society and played both baseball and basketball. Ed then went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University where he was also a member of the 1968 Rock Baseball Championship team. He continued to play baseball and softball into his 40s and also enjoyed playing golf.
Ed was employed for Peters Township School District as a physical education teacher. He retired after a 35 year career.
He was a former member of the Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post #6319, Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373, both of Greencastle as well as the Eagles Club and Elks Club of Waynesboro, PA.
He is survived by two sons, Edward and Keith Small; a sister Sandrae Small Blankenhorn of Kentucky; three grandsons, Evan, Colin and Chandler Small; an aunt Lana K. Glaser of Mechanicsburg, PA; a niece Angie Blankenhorn; and two nephews Mathew and Mark Blankenhorn. Also surviving Ed are many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 13, 2021 in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle Street, Greencastle, PA 17225 with Pastor John Brock of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Camp Hill, officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Wednesday morning in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
