Doris Louise Martin

Doris Louise Martin, age 82, of Hagerstown, MD, entered eternal rest with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Born in Hagerstown, MD on August 11, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Archibald Burton Shafer and Louise Hansroth Shafer.

Mrs. Martin was a 1962 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim Senior High School. She later attended Hagerstown Junior College. Mrs. Martin was a member of Northside Mennonite Church, where she played the organ for many years. She was a farmer’s wife, a school bus driver for Washington County Public Schools, and worked at Citibank Credit Services later in life, where she retired. She was a former member of the Coseytown Homemakers and enjoyed going to the cabin in Potter Co., snowmobiling, gardening, flower arranging, sewing, crocheting and baking. She was a beautiful soul who cannot be adequately described in words. She was special to all of us in our own way and will continue to live on through us and our children.

Surviving are four children, Cindy L. Kirby (James) of Clear Spring, MD, A. Duane Martin (Sharon) of Clear Spring, MD, Cathy S. Martin (Matthew) of Sellersville, PA, and Angel D. Martin of Greencastle, PA; 13 grandchildren, James Kirby III (Allison), Jessica Harshman (Hunter), Benjamin Martin (Aurielle), Robert Martin (Nicole), Tessa Babler (Jake), Macayla Martin (Forrest), Darius Hardy Gross, Cierra Lane Gross, Madeline Rose, Sage Gross, Ella Gross, Chanz Flores Gross, and Taylor Gross; 10 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Carl (Sherry) and Bernie (Renee) Shafer both of TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Arlan Eugene Martin in 2023; a grandson, Gene Wiles; and brothers, Arnold and Allen Shafer.

Services and interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA.
