Waynesboro and formerly of Greencastle, PA

Don A. Coldsmith, age 85, a resident of the Quincy Village and formerly of Apple Dr. Greencastle died Sunday, September 9, 2018, with his family by his side at the nursing home.

Born August 11, 1933 in Greencastle, PA, he was the son of the late Sheriff James W. Coldsmith and Mildred A. (Koontz) Coldsmith. Don married his wife Ruth M. (Sellers) Coldsmith on October 22, 1955 and they renewed their wedding vows in April 2018.

Don was co-owner of the former CMC Associates, Inc. in Greencastle. He was a 1951 graduate of Greencastle High School and a US Navy veteran of the Korean War having served aboard the    USS Oriskany Aircraft Carrier.

He was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ of Greencastle, life member of the Rescue Hose Co. No. 1 of Greencastle and former member of the Greencastle Lions where he served as treasurer and on various committees. Don was a member of the Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post #6319 and the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373, both of Greencastle.

Don served for many years on the Greencastle Borough Council, was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Lodge No. 443, F.& A.M and the Harrisburg Consistory and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of the former Board of Associates of the First National Bank of Greencastle and was chairman of the Fireworks Committee of the Greencastle Old Home Week Association.

Surviving family in addition to his wife of  62 years are two daughters Melanie Bellissimo and husband Joseph of Hershey, PA, Laurie Schwing and husband Eric Barnhart of Hershey, PA; four grandchildren, Bryan Bellissimo and wife Mallory, Bethany Schwing, Don Bellissimo and wife Lindsay, Joseph James Bellissimo and one great-granddaughter Emma Bellissimo.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 11:00 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Chaplain Justin Isbister officiating. Military honors will be conducted following the service by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Saturday.
