Charles Wilbur “Bud” Dietrick, 86, of Chambersburg, PA passed away the morning of Friday, July 29, 2022 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born October 15, 1935 in West Virginia he was the son of the late Herbert S. and Mildred M. Dietrick.
He was a graduate of Churchland High School, Portsmouth, VA with the Class of 1953 where he played football. Bud then went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1957. He was stationed in Japan and played football for the Air Force during his time in the service as well.
Bud was employed in communications at Site R, Blue Ridge Summit, PA. He retired in 1990 after 23 years there. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. Bud was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Football fan. He enjoyed wood-working, gardening, drawing, golfing, working on puzzles and playing chess with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty B. (Bunting) Dietrick who he married September 6, 1969; two daughters, Annette Straley and her husband Raymond of Upton, PA and Catherine Boswell and her husband Tony of Chambersburg, PA; four grandchildren, Tyler Boswell, Dylan Boswell , Cody Straley and Jessica Straley; two brothers, Kenneth Dietrick and his wife Gayle of Virginia and Donald Dietrick and his wife Carm of Rhode Island; sister-in-law Carol Dietrick of California and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Herbert Dietrick.
Services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 3, 2022 the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA with Pastor Gayle Ruble officiating. Burial will follow in Browns Mill Cemetery, Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Rd, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
