Cedric Angle Duffield, 92, died Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Twin Oaks Assisted Living in Williamsport, Maryland.
Born January 17, 1933, in Welsh Run, Pennsylvania, Cedric was the son of the late W. Angle and Gladys (Glazer) Duffield. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Julia B. (DeLauder) Duffield. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert M. Duffield and Ned G. Duffield, and his sister, Joanne M. O'Brien.
After graduating from Hagerstown High School in 1952, Cedric worked in sheet metal fabrication before joining the United States Navy in April 1953. After his honorable discharge in February 1957, he continued to cultivate his sheet metal skills, eventually starting his own business in the basement of his Welsh Run home. This venture grew and became Greencastle Metal Works, which was a leading business in the Greencastle area for 25 years. During this time, Cedric's expertise was frequently sought by companies such as Westinghouse, and he provided the same service to his customers, be it a large corporation or a local farmer. Throughout his life, Cedric was active in church and his community at large, such as serving for a time on the board of the Tuscarora School District.
After retiring in 1990, Cedric and his wife, Julia, enjoyed traveling with a core group of friends throughout most of the continental United States and into Canada. Cedric was a big supporter of the Robert Kennedy Memorial Church and TWEP. Cedric was generous with his knowledge and talents, lending a hand to so many individuals and organizations over the years.
Cedric was, without a doubt, the patriarch of the Duffield family. No stranger to a practical joke, his sharp wit and sense of humor brought so much laughter to all. He loved his family -- whether enjoying listening to his great-grandchildren sharing stories about their adventures or celebrating their achievements -- and his presence at the head of the dinner table will be dearly missed. His wisdom was sought after by so many and his support was integral in the endeavors and successes of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Mike (Sue) Duffield and daughter, Kim (Pat) DeLany; five grandchildren: Chris (Mikala) Duffield, Erin (Scott) Finnegan, Ashley (Dustin) Vogel, Bridget DeLany and Griffin DeLany; and six great-grandchildren: Camden Klenzing, Blake Klenzing, Raylan Duffield, Collin Duffield, Adalie Finnegan, Evan Vogel and his favorite fur buddy, Jake.
The care and attention given to him by all the staff at Twin Oaks was without fault and so appreciated. Special thanks also goes to Hospice of Washington County, especially his nurse, Joey. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Washington County or TWEP.
