Shady Grove

Betty Mae Gearhart, age 99, of Shady Grove, PA, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Waynesboro Hospital. Born on May 5, 1927, in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Levi D. and Hazel M. (Mentzer) Heefner.

Mrs. Gearhart was a 1945 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School. She dedicated 25 years of service as a postal clerk at the Shady Grove and Greencastle Post Office, retiring in 1992. Throughout her life, Betty was known for her strong work ethic, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.

Betty found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved sewing and cooking, tending to her flowers, and watching hummingbirds flutter through her yard. She especially enjoyed sitting on her porch, taking in the beauty of the day, waving to neighbors, and people-watching as the world passed by.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Betty lived her life with grace, humility, and gratitude. She cherished every moment spent with her family and treasured the relationships she nurtured throughout her nearly 100 years. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and quiet wisdom touched the lives of all who knew her. Betty's greatest legacy lives on in the generations blessed to call her Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great-Grandmother. Her life was a blessing to many and a beautiful testament to God's faithfulness.

Surviving are her daughter, Nina Myers of Shady Grove, PA; two grandchildren, Wendy Martin and her husband, Bobby, of Shady Grove, PA, and Jake Mummert and his wife, Hannah, of Waynesboro, PA; two step-grandchildren, Amy M. Semler and her husband, Mark, of Greencastle, PA, and Jennifer L. Mumau and her husband, Justin, of Greencastle, PA; seven great-grandchildren, Lacey Mentzer and her husband, Derrick, Karlie Mummert, Logan Moon and his wife, Erika, Levi Mummert and his wife, Emily, and Lucas, Chet, and Gage Mummert; two step-great-grandchildren, Cody Martin and his wife, Quinn, and Christopher Hammond; four great-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Gerald R. Gearhart, in 2006; her son-in-law, Hal E. Myers, in 2024; and six siblings, Bonnie, Jane, Joyce, Larry, Dale, and Clover.

She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and joyfully reunited with those who have gone before her in Christ.
