William E. "Bill" Shindle

William E. “Bill” Shindle, age 94 of Greencastle, PA went home to be with the Lord on Friday evening December 8, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born January 24, 1923 in Greencastle, PA, he was the son of the late Bruce Jacob and Helen Leiter (Kuhn) Shindle. He married his wife Mable V. (Brindle) Shindle on December 24, 1943.

Bill retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg and was a self-employed taxidermist for many years. He was an avid lifelong hunter and also enjoyed fishing.

He was a member of the Macedonia United Brethren Church near Greencastle where he had served as a church trustee and Sunday School teacher. Bill was a life member of the NRA, North American Hunting Club and the Pennsylvania Taxidermy Association.

Surviving family in addition to his wife of nearly 74 years are  two daughters; Beverley J. Coble and husband William T. of Greencastle, Sharon N. Gladfelter and husband David of Greencastle, one son, William E. Shindle Jr. and wife Nancy M. of Greencastle, one brother Glen Shindle of Hagerstown, one sister, Doris Shultz of Greencastle, four grandchildren, Lori Wood and husband Mike, Amy Frisby and husband Gary, Sue Landers and husband Jerry, Wendy Hopkins and husband Shawn, nine great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Nelson Shindle and Jacob Shindle.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 13 at 11:00 AM at the Macedonia United Brethren Church 11887 Worleytown Rd. Greencastle with Rev. Milton Herrold Jr. and Rev. Gayle Ruble Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Wednesday.
