Ruth E. Eckstine

Ruth E. (Sites) Eckstine, age 96, a resident of Menno Haven in Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Greencastle, PA died early Wednesday morning July 19, 2017 in Menno Haven.

Born April 2, 1921 on the family farm near Williamson, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Alice (Statler) Sites. On January 1, 1945 she married J. Kenneth Eckstine. He died on November 5, 1990.

Ruth was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle for over 70 years, member of the Women’s Bible Class, member of the E.L.C.A. and had many years of perfect attendance.  She was employed at the former Tracey Fashions of Chambersburg for 25 years retiring in 1984.

She was also a member of the Chambersburg Quilt Guild and the Busy Bee Quilters Guild of the church. Ruth entered quilts, flowers and baked goods in the Shippensburg Fair, Franklin County Fair and at State Farm Show in Harrisburg having won 600 ribbons.

She was a 1939 graduate of the former St. Thomas High School.

Surviving family are a daughter-in-law Connie (Rudy) Eckstine of Tampa, FL, two granddaughters, Marie Whelan and husband Michael, Gina Betz and husband Matthew, three great-grandchildren and one sister Janet Murray of Chambersburg.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Leon Eckstine who died on February 1, 2011; three sisters, Pauline Michaels, Virginia Meyers, Eunice Jones and a brother Preston Sites.

Funeral services will be held on Monday July 24 at 10:00 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Harold Yeager officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Evangelical Lutheran Church 130 North Washington St. Greencastle, PA 17225. Online condolences may be given at www.zimmermanfh.com
