Mary Picking Obituary

Mary L. DeHart Picking, age 73, a resident of Menno Haven Brookview community passed from this life on Friday, February 5, 2021.

Mary is the daughter of the late Benjamin DeHart and Irene Kessinger DeHart Kelley. She was born March 19, 1947 in Chambersburg PA and lived her entire life in the Chambersburg area, living most of those years in Marion, PA.

Mary attended the former Stevens Elementary school and graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School with the class of 1965.

She worked at Stanley Co and Tracy Fashions briefly after high school and subsequently married Donald Picking in 1965. After marriage, Mary was a full time wife and mother. She spent many hours being a Released Time worker and doing volunteer church office duties and volunteering at her sons elementary schools. She also served as Judge of Election for Guilford 4 voting district for several years. 

Mary was preceded in death by her mother, father and step father Robert Kelley, two sisters, Joan Rubert, Donna Zelwak and one brother Benjamin DeHart.

She is survived by her husband Donald Picking, two sons Christopher Picking (wife Sonja), Roger Picking, one brother Greg Kelley and one grandson Brady Picking.

A celebration of life service will be held at the Open Door Church in Chambersburg, on Tuesday, February 9 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mike Sanders officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday one hour before the service. Private interment will be at Brown’s Mill cemetery in Kaufman Station, PA following the funeral service.

The family would like to thank the Menno Haven Nursing Center staff for the loving and patient care shown to Mary.
