LeRoy D. McCrae

LeRoy D. McCrae, age 93, of Greencastle, PA died on Saturday evening September 1, 2018.

Born September 1, 1925 in Orrstown, PA, he was the son of the late Jesse Douglas and Mary Elizabeth (Biesecker) McCrae. He married his wife Gladys (Oaks) McCrae on April 5, 1952 in Greencastle.

In his younger years, he worked for Curtis Publishing Co. and then in 1954 built and operated for a number of years the former Green Point Snack Bar of Greencastle. Mr. McCrae was a teacher in the Greencastle-Antrim School District for 23 years retiring in 1988. He was a graduate of Shippensburg High School and Shippensburg University.

He served in the US Army for 4 years with the 345 Engineering Combat Ready Reserves. LeRoy attended the Grace Bible Church of Greencastle and previously attended the former Calvary Bible Church of Greencastle. He helped with activities at Camp Joy El and with their Bible Release Program.

Surviving family in addition to his wife of 66 years are numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, one sister and infant sister.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 6 at 11:00 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Pastors Dave Mummert and Herman Fisler officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30 – 11:00 AM.
