Laban A. Horst, age 85, of Chambersburg, PA died at 2:25 PM Monday, June 4, 2018 at his home.

Born October 25, 1932 near Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Adin H. and Lizzie (Horst) Horst. He was a retired farmer and livestock hauler. Laban was a member of the Cedar Valley Mennonite Church near Marion, PA

He and his wife Miriam (Diller) Horst were married November 12, 1953 near Mason Dixon, PA

Surviving family in addition to his wife of 64 ½ years are six sons, Nelson and his wife (Ruth Yoder) Horst of Newburg, PA, Nevin and his wife (Grace Torkelson) Horst of Leola, PA, Nathan and his wife (Sue Martin) Horst of Crab Orchard, KY, John and his wife (Irene Williams) Horst of Chambersburg, PA,  Jason and his wife (Crystal Martin) Horst, Meadville, PA, Jacob and his wife (Bertha Martin) Horst of Waynesboro, PA; seven daughters, Rose Horst of Chambersburg, PA,  Lois and her husband (Richard) Showalter of Waynesboro, PA, Susan and her husband (Stephen) Martin of Hagerstown, MD, Leah and her husband (Wayne) Williams of Pennsylvania, Pearl Horst of Chambersburg, PA, Vera and her husband (Ivan) Hostetter of Hagerstown, MD, Grace and her husband (Marcus) Martin of Waynesboro, PA; four brothers, Chester Horst of Greencastle, PA, Mervin Horst of Waynesboro, PA, Allen Horst of Mishicot, WI, Enos Horst of Athens, WI; four sisters, Lydia (Nathan) Rudolph, Greencastle, PA, Iva (Elwood) Strite, Hagerstown, MD, Anna (David) Strite, Clear Spring, MD, Rhoda (Robert) Martin, Hagerstown, MD; eighty-three grandchildren and sixty-one great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Arlin Horst.

Funeral services will be held on Friday June 8 at 10:00 AM at the Cedar Valley Mennonite Church near Marion, PA with the Cedar Valley Ministry officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 1:00 - 3:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM and on Friday one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Valley Mennonite Church c/o Deacon Joseph Rhodes 720 Swamp Fox Rd. Chambersburg, PA 17202. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle, PA.
