Joseph W. Snyder  

Joseph W. Snyder, age 91 of  638 South Washington Street, Greencastle, PA passed away at his home on June 23, 2017.  Born on November 16, 1925, in Lewisburg, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Kerr) Snyder.  He married Sara (Sally) Moeschlin on September 3, 1949.  They have been married 67 years.  He was preceded in death by one young daughter.

Joe was an Aviation and Engine Mechanic having graduated from the Academy of Aeronautics in New York City.  He worked for Fairchild in flight test then at the Landis Hanger maintaining their executive aircraft.  He served on the Greencastle Town Council and for many years as president of the Franklin County Water Authority.  Joe was the founder of the Conococheague Archers and an active member of the Greencastle Sportsman’s Association.

Joe served in World War II in the Pacific Theater as a gunner and flight engineer on B-24 bombers. He was an active member of the 43rd Bomb Group Association, the VFW and American Legion. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stephen and his wife Beverly, Joanne Turner and her husband Lloyd and Sally Jo Bowser and her husband Stan, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.        

A service will be held in the Greencastle Presbyterian Church on Thursday, June 29th at 1:00pm.  There will be no public viewing and the family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Thursday. Burial with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Honor Guard will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, 57 W. Baltimore St. Greencastle, PA 17225 or to a charity of your choice.
