Jane M. Christophel

Jane M. (Hykes) Christophel, age 86, a resident of  The Shook Home in Chambersburg and formerly of Jack Rd. Chambersburg died Friday evening December 28, 2018 at the Shook Home.

Born July 19, 1932 in Greencastle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jacob H. and Lydia R. (Egolf) Hykes. She married her husband Samuel N. Christophel Sr. on December 15, 1951. He died on August 12, 2013.

Jane was a homemaker and had also worked for 16 years at the Wheelock Hatchery in Chambersburg and in her younger years she worked at the former Stanley Co.

She was a member of the West Side Brethren In Christ Church of Chambersburg and taught in the children’s Sunday School. Jane also served in the Release Time Bible program.

Surviving family are two daughters Ann M. Reeder and husband Bill, Alisa K. Miller and husband Don, all of Chambersburg;  three sons, Samuel Christophel Jr. and wife Betty of Bradenton, FL, Jay Christophel and wife Deb of Chambersburg, Dwayne R. Christophel and wife Nicolee of  Chambersburg;  fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ivy Maynard of Chambersburg and Linda Rotz of Greencastle.

In addition to her parents and husband,  she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jacob Owen Hykes and Leslie Hykes.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday January 3, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. James Sollenberger officiating. Burial will be in the Browns Mill Cemetery Kauffman, PA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6- 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the West Side Brethren In Christ Church 2665 Lincoln Way West Chambersburg, PA 17202 or to the American Heart Association 4250 Crums Mill Road, Suite 100 Harrisburg, PA 17112.
