Jack J. Mowen

Jack J. Mowen, age 88, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018, at his home with his family by his side. Born January 6, 1930, in Antrim Township, he was a son of the late Marvin and Hazel Gelsinger Mowen.

A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Mowen served honorably during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a forklift mechanic at Corning Glass for 32 years, retiring in 1993. He was a life member of the VFW Post 6319 in Greencastle, PA. Mr. Mowen enjoyed camping, working in his yard, taking bus trips, his family, especially his great-grandchildren.

Surviving is his daughter, Robbin K. Beeler (husband William) of Greencastle, PA; a special friend, Marilyn Wishard; granddaughter, Candy Steele of Gettysburg, PA; three great-grandchildren, Luke, Dane, and Ella Steele of Gettysburg, PA; three siblings, Harry Mowen of Richmond Furnace, PA, Nancy Helman of Upper Strasburg, PA and Clifford Mowen of Chambersburg, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Vonny Ricker Mowen in 1998 and several siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 11:00 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA, where Pastor Brian Emery will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment with military honors provided by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow the service in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to SpiriTrust Lutheran Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
