Dorothy L. (Hartman) Martin

Dorothy L. Martin, age 97, formerly of Greencastle, PA, passed away at the Shook Home on Thursday, December 6, 2018. Born June 12, 1921, in Antrim Township, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Welty and Blanche Helmuth Hartman.

A 1939 graduate of Greencastle High School, Mrs. Martin continued her education at former Columbia Business College, where she graduated in 1940. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle and the Greencastle VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She had helped with the meals for the Shady Grove Community Center.  

Surviving is her daughter, Alma Jean Cordell (husband Ronald) of Greencastle, PA; three grandsons, Ronald Cordell II of Greencastle, Donald Cordell of Greencastle, and Matthew Cordell of Chambersburg; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Martin in 1992 and two siblings, William R. Hartman and Lois Jean Myers.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at 11 AM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 South Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA, where Pastor Martin H. Horn will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 10, 2018, from 6 – 8 PM in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Browns Mill Cemetery, Kauffman, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 130 N. Washington St., Greencastle, PA 17225 or to SpiriTrust Lutheran Hospice, 2700 Luther Dr., Chambersburg, PA 17202.
