Clyde S. Sollenberger

Clyde S. Sollenberger, age 88, formerly of Greencastle, passed peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Menno Haven, Chambersburg, PA. 

Born October 14, 1929 in Letterkenny Township near Chambersburg, he was the son of the late David N. and Barbara A. Sollenberger.

He graduated from Messiah Academy, Grantham, PA in 1947 and Messiah Jr. College in 1953 with certification in both business and music.

He had various business related jobs over his working life, retiring in 1989 from the McBeth Corp. of Chambersburg, where he was the comptroller for almost 20 years. Clyde was a member of the Antrim Brethren In Christ Church near Chambersburg. He had a lifelong love of music and directed numerous church and community choirs over the years. He also enjoyed traveling and woodworking.

Surviving family are his wife of 61 years Dorothy Jean “DJ” (McCleaf) Sollenberger of Menno Haven, one son, Bryan M. Sollenberger of London England, one daughter and son-in-law, Denise J. and David Drew Martin of Thurmont, MD, two sisters, Catherine E. Buckwalter of Frederick, PA and Gladys L. Stickley of Collingwood, Ontario Canada. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by a brother Glenn S. Sollenberger.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday November 15 at 10:30 AM at the Menno Haven Chapel 2075 Scotland Ave. Chambersburg with Pastor Casey Hurst officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Air Hill Church Cemetery near Chambersburg. The family will receive friends on Tuesday November 14 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Benevolent Care Fund of Menno Haven 2075 Scotland Ave. Chambersburg, PA 17201.
