Arthur R. Hoyle

Arthur R.  Hoyle, age 85 of Greencastle, PA died Sunday afternoon June 9, 2019 in the York Hospital from injuries he received from a fall at his home.

Born April 21, 1934 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Arthur R. Hoyle and  Ivy (Wilkens) Hoyle . He married his wife Cecelia B. (Byrne) Hoyle on January 18, 1958.

Arthur retired from the Department of Defense as a Defense Communications Specialist. Following his retirement, he worked for Vance Security in Virginia. He was a US Air Force Veteran of the Korean War having served in Japan and the Pentagon . He played on the US Air Force baseball team while in the military. In 1989 Arthur received the Defense Communication Agency Directors Award for Meritorious Service.

Arthur was a 1952 graduate of Carbondale High School . He was a life member of the Greencastle V.F.W. and enjoyed playing baseball and golfing. He and his wife renewed their wedding vows on their 50th anniversary in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are three sons Artie W. Hoyle, David Glynn Hoyle, John Scott   Hoyle; grandchildren, Jason, Candace, Christopher, David Jr., Amanda, Brittany, Jackie, J.D., Cory; 15 great-grandchildren and one brother Glynn Hoyle.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 14 at 11:00 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Martin Horn officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Honor Guard Post #1519 will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
