Ruth Naomi Showalter

Ruth Naomi (Martin) Showalter, age 94, a resident of Village Square at Menno Haven in Chambersburg, PA died early Monday morning December 18, 2017 in the Chambersburg Hospital following a brief illness.

Born May 5, 1923 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Leroy S. and Ida M. (Ebersole) Martin. Her husband Paul D. Showalter died January 3, 2003.

Ruth was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm and also with his woodworking hobby. Ruth enjoyed volunteering at different organizations including Cove Valley Camp as a cook, at Menno Haven, Cumberland Valley Relief Center and at World Treasures Thrift Shop in Hagerstown. She was a member of Salem Ridge Community Church of Greencastle.

Ruth loved spending time with her family, quilting, reading, table games and enjoyed being an encouragement to others.

  Surviving family are six daughters, Lorraine Martin and husband Arvid of Imlay City, MI, Ellen Hartzler and husband Jay of Belleville, PA, Lucille Martin and husband Stephen of Waynesboro, PA, Carolyn Martin and husband Darwin of Chambersburg, PA, Cheryl Frey and husband Gary of State Line, PA, Joanna Lehman and husband Ralph of Chambersburg, PA, 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, two sisters, Mary Jane Diller, Dorothy Martin and one brother Jacob Martin.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 1 grandson, 1 great-granddaughter, 4 brothers, Harold Martin, Richard Martin, Charles Martin, Lester Martin and 3 sisters, Elizabeth Oberholzer, Pauline Martin and Ethel Strite.

A memorial service will be held on Friday December 22 at 11:00 AM at the Salem Ridge Community Church 441 Pensinger Rd. Greencastle with with Pastor Brian Emery and Pastor Roger Martin officiating. There will be a visitation at the church on Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Cove Valley Camp Capital Campaign 5357 Little Cove Rd. Mercersburg, PA 17236.
