Jean Elizabeth (Oliver) Reymer

Jean Elizabeth (Oliver) Reymer of Greencastle, PA died on Thursday September 29, 2016.

Mrs. Reymer is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert C. Reymer Jr, her son Douglas Oliver Reymer, both of Greencastle, her sister Doris Oliver Young of Baltimore, MD and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Oliver, son Robert Charles Reymer III and a brother James P. Oliver.

Jean was a proud graduate of Greencastle High School, the valedictorian of the Class of 1944. She graduated from Hood College of Frederick, MD with a BS degree and continued graduate work in Rochester NY and Pittsburgh, PA. Mrs. Reymer was a valued employee of the Pennsylvania Dept. of Education, working with the School Food Lunch Program.

Despite being a registered dietitian, Jean claimed to be an awful cook, yet her family meals and dinner parties were always superb. She adored her garden, particularly the Queen Elizabeth pink rose and her Southern Magnolia planted in memory of her son Rob.

Jean was also a devoted letter writer, staying in touch with friends of 80 plus years, preferring her engraved letter paper, often the telephone and never e-mail. In that respect, Jean was delightfully old fashioned and very correct. Invariably, she had her Christmas card and letter ready in early December, always choosing cards from the Metropolitan Museum, her favorite being religious paintings by Raphael. Jean also was the consummate housekeeper. All her friends joked that she had the cleanest windows and floors anywhere and there seemed to be a friendly competition with the Shady Grove ladies and you know who you are.

Mrs. Reymer was born on November 26, 1926 and was a devoted member of the Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church just outside of Gettysburg, PA. A devoted wife, mother, colleague and friend, she will be missed and mourned by many.

Burial will be at the convenience of family and close friends in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. All are invited to a memorial service on Friday October 14 at 11:00 AM at the Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church 1865 Knoxlyn Rd. Gettysburg with Rev. Troy Morgan officiating. A lunch for family and friends will follow the service. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.zimmermanfh.com. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle.
