Ira Eugene “Gene” Plum, age 84 of Greencastle, PA died early Saturday morning September 16, 2017 at the Orrstown Personal Care Home  in Orrstown, PA.

Born June 9, 1933 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of Viola M. (Daley) Plum of Greencastle and the late J. Ira Plum. He married his wife Patricia L. (Eckstine) Plum on January 2, 1989. She died on March 7, 2012.

Gene retired from Mack Truck of Hagerstown and had previously worked at the Frick Co. of Waynesboro and in his earlier years had a delivery route for Moyers Chips. He was a 1951 graduate of Greencastle High School and he was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Gene was a member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 and the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373, both of Greencastle. He was also a member of UAW Local # 171 of Hagerstown. His hobbies and interests included fishing at the bay, playing poker with his friends and following his retirement he enjoyed attending auctions.

Surviving family in addition to his mother are three daughters, Judy Craig and husband Wayne III of Orrstown, PA, Aleesa Banzhoff and husband Brian of Hagerstown, MD, Diane Haupt of Greencastle, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; step-children Kathy Grimsley of Hagerstown and David Brown Jr. of Lancaster, PA and several step-grandchildren.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one grandson Michael John Plum and his loving cat companion Blackie.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Shanks Church Cemetery near Greencastle with Jason Banzhoff officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening September 19 from 6:00 – 8:00 at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association 2595 Interstate Dr. Suite 100 Harrisburg, PA 17110.
