Gladys V. (Rowe) Baker

Gladys V. (Rowe) Baker, age 95, formerly of Greencastle and Chambersburg, died Monday evening February 5, 2018 in the Quincy Village Extended Care Facility, Quincy, PA  

Born January 26, 1923 in Antrim Twp. Franklin County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jacob L. and Alice V. (Steiner) Rowe. She married her husband Donald L. “Red” Baker on July 15, 1939 in Covington, KY. He died on June 9, 1974.

She worked as a nurses aid at the South Mountain Restoration Center retiring in 1988 and had previously worked for 17 years at the former Stanley Company of Chambersburg.

Gladys was a member of the former Calvary Bible Church of Greencastle. She was a life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 Auxiliary, life member of the Rescue Hose Co. # 1, member of the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373 Auxiliary, all of Greencastle. Gladys also was a member of the Middleburg Historical Society and the Greencastle-Antrim Loyal Daughters.

She attended Greencastle High School with the Class of 1941.

Surviving family are one daughter Jelena L. Gomes of Chambersburg, one son, Joseph L. Baker of Chambersburg, 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Gladys was preceded in death by two daughters Jean P. Gress in 2006, Joyce V. Smith in 2007, a son Jack Baker in 1969, granddaughter April Baker, great-grandson Kyle Smith, great-granddaughter Ellen Smith, one sister Mary Hartman and two brothers Lloyd Rowe  and Wayne Rowe.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday February 10 at 2:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St.  Greencastle, PA. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Saturday.
