Elinor M. (Crider) Showalter

Elinor M. (Crider) Showalter, age 87 of Social Island Road Chambersburg, PA passed away peacefully at her home on Friday morning December 2, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

Born June 26, 1929 in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Lizzie E. (Frey) Crider. She married Glenn D. Showalter on November 30, 1950.

Elinor was a homemaker and had also worked at the former Lehman’s Egg Service, Shalom Christian Academy and Cove Valley Camp. She was a member of the Chambersburg Mennonite Church, volunteered at the Cumberland Valley Relief Center and she enjoyed quilting.

Surviving family in addition to her husband of 66 years are two daughters, Fern (Edward) Horst of Chambersburg, Phyllis Showalter of York, PA, two sons, Eldon (Jean) Showalter of Waynesboro, Darrel (Karen)) Showalter of Greencastle, eight grandchildren, Laura (Rodney) Martin, Wanda (Paul) Schlabach, Duane (Malisa) Horst, Brett (Lauren) Showalter, Erin (David) Carter, Tony (Kristen) Showalter, Kelly (Eric) Alleman, Lisa Horst, 25 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Thelma Diller of Shippensburg, PA and Janet Crider of Chambersburg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson Kevin Horst, three brothers, J. Eldon Crider, Lester Crider, Harold Crider and a sister Leona Showalter.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 6 at 11:00 AM at the Chambersburg Mennonite Church 1800 Philadelphia Ave. Chambersburg with Rev. Jerry Roth officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery following the service.  There will be no public viewing but the family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Tuesday.  Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Cumberland Valley Relief Center Building Fund 4225 Molly Pitcher Hwy.
