Edward Jackson Smith, Jr., age 81, formerly of Greencastle, PA, was called to his eternal Home on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Hayesville House in Hayesville, NC. following a battle with Dementia and Parkinson's Disease. 

He was born in Weston, West Virginia on March 27, 1936. He was the son of the late Edward Jackson Smith, Sr. and Bessie (Cutlip) Smith. He married his wife Joyce Ellen (Barker) Smith on January 21,1956. She died on April 5, 2013.

He lived in Romney, W.Va. before relocating to Pennsylvania.

Edward worked at Mack Truck in Hagerstown for several years then retired from Washington County Hospital as an xray tech. He was a member of the Faith Christian Church in Williamsport, MD and served the church as a Sunday School teacher and deacon.

Edward was a gentle, kind man with a servant’s heart. He was a devoted follower of Christ, a faithful husband, protective father, great provider, loved his family and a loyal friend to many. His spiritual gift was giving and he always helped people in need. He was quiet and reserved but wise and analytical. He had a great sense of humor and loved God’s Word and based his life on God’s principles.

Surviving family are four children: Kimberly ( Daniel) Sims of Young Harris, GA.; Julie (Reed) Ulery of Falling Waters, W.VA.; Jonathan ( Debra) Smith of Boonsboro, MD.; Jodi  (Keith) Layne of Lynchburg, VA., sixteen grandchildren: Erica, Amberly, Matthew, Joey, Andrea, Krisi, Joshua, Jenna, Jillian, Daniel, Logan, Dylan, Lakin, Jedidiah, Jadyn, Kambria, nine great-grandchildren and one brother Thomas Smith of McConnellsburg, PA.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 27 at 11:00 A.M. at the Greencastle Baptist Church 2377 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle with Pastor John Miller    officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Friday evening January 26 from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Hayesville House 480 Old Hwy 64 West Hayesville, NC 28904.
