E. Elaine (Thomas) Peterson, age 82 of Waynesboro, PA died at 1:30 PM Wednesday August 31, 2016 in her home.

Born May 9, 1934 in Ionia, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Emory and Lois (Miller) Thomas. She married Maynard E. “Pete” Peterson on March 1, 1985 in Hagerstown. He died on May 19, 2003.  She was preceded in death by her first husband Robert Tyler.

She and her late husband Pete owned and operated for 20 years the H& R Block office in Greencastle with her retiring in 2010.

Elaine was a member of the Greencastle Senior Center where she had served as treasurer. She was a member of the Church of God Universal in Hagerstown.  She enjoyed playing cards and she dearly loved all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Surviving family are two daughters Kathy Tyler of Waynesboro, Carolyn Hoover of Hagerstown, two sons, Greg Tyler and Phillip Tyler, both of Hagerstown, one  step-son Robert A. Peterson of McConnellsburg, PA, two step-daughters, Tracy Adams of Waynesboro, Jeanie Scheell of Stillwater, MN, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, one sister Delores Gates of Marion, VA, one sister-in-law, Nancy Thomas of Allentown, PA and  special thanks and deep appreciation to Tanya Trail, her care giver the past several years.

She was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 6 at 10:00 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Pastor Alvin A. Craig and Brother Douglas Shenberger officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
